Why I Love My Home....
There are many things to love about Enterprise, Alabama. The diverse population comes together in a spirit of community. It has the warm feeling of a small community although it has the resources of a larger city. When we arrived in August 1986, our son was 4 years old and we wanted a place to raise him that would be safe, full of activities, good education, recreation, fun, and find a loving church family. We found all this in Enterprise. We have lived here 21 years and were never disappointed in our choice.
Our neighborhood is friendly and great for watching out for each other. Being located in a back secluded street makes it less traveled on by vehicles and unwanted intruders, therefore safer for children. Everyone gets to know each other and helps you out when needed.
The restaurants in the area are varied and great. Restaurants we loved to eat at included: Ruby Tuesday, Santa Fe Cattle Company, Pizza Hut, Ryan’s, Rawls Hotel, and Mellow Mushroom.
Grocery stores are plentiful and naturally I loved going to the new Walmart Supercenter which is within 5 minutes. Other grocery stores in the area include Publix, Food World and Winn Dixie. Of course I shopped at Fort Rucker’s Commissary which is only 10 minutes away. There are lots of possibilities within a few minute’s drive.
When we bought the property we were drawn to the locality, the house, and the neighborhood. David was active duty military. He enjoyed being within 3.4 miles from Fort Rucker. Also, the fact that our son could walk safely to one of the best schools was a big plus. The neighborhood is located away from traffic since it is a back street. This made it safer for him to ride his bike and we never had a security problem. The fenced-in back yard with the playhouse and shaded large grassy area made it a favorite for local children to gather. Many Scout meetings were held in our back yard.
The Wiregrass area is wonderful with access to rural area, shopping, parks, activities, small and large cities, colleges, state capital, and naturally the beaches of Florida. Fort Rucker contributes to the economic stability of the area and adds valuable resources. In 2010, based on new US Census data, Enterprise was named Alabama's "Boom Town," boasting a 25.3% growth over 10 years. Our 26,574 person population allows it to provide a quality of life that integrates small town togetherness with urban vitality.
A few other things that I can mention are the schools and activities available. Having been a teacher in Alaska and Maryland, the public education system was a high priority for me. I found Enterprise’s public education excellent. With an active 4 year old, schools were our primary concern. With some research we found out that Harrand Creek Elementary School was the school of choice. Sean entered Kindergarten at Harrand Creek School which is within walking distance. He graduated from Enterprise High School in 2000 and is now Dr. Sean Rotolo. I give a great deal of credit to his Enterprise education for his success.
I can also vouch for the Enterprise State Community College since it helped me complete my undergraduate degree when we first lived in Enterprise in the 70’s. Having so many local colleges increases higher education opportunities.
There are many fine education possibilities in the Wiregrass area.
We love to entertain in this home. The back yard, enclosed sun room, and spacious concreted driveways make it perfect for any size party. The playhouse in the back yard is great for the small child up to teenage years. The large shade trees make it comfortable in the summer. If a pool were desired, there is room to put one in.
Of course we all like different things, we enjoy tennis, soccer, baseball, basketball, football, camping, concerts, beach activities, and belonging to local car clubs. If you are a handy person the automobile pit located in the 3rd garage is ideal for changing oil and working on vehicles. The covered motor home area provides protection to a motor home or an outside event.
Our friends could not believe how low our utility costs were. The house is very energy efficient for it’s size. There have been many extras added to increase energy efficiency. The water heater is indoors and on a timer. The mother-in-law suite is separate from the main house so when it isn’t being used there is no energy required. The large shade trees help with summer cooling. The refrigerator is new and energy efficient. The electric is provided by Alabama Electric and the city provides water and sewer. Our high speed Internet and cable was provided by Adelphia.
